About CENTRE FOR TISSUE ENGINEERING

The Centre for Tissue Engineering (CTE), is a provider of bone derived products, collagen based biomaterials, bone inducing growth factors and soft tissues. The bone bank was founded in Pretoria in 2002 in collaboration with Bone SA as a Centre of the Tshwane University of Technology. An important task for the CTE, is to build community awareness of the importance of tissue donation so that the South African families can make informed consents about the options of donation. |

Society has long recognized the medical and humanitarian value of donating and transplanting organs and tissues. The Centre for Tissue Engineering operates in terms of all relevant Government legislation, and endeavors to maintain a safe and adequate supply of its products for tissue engineering, whilst keeping pace with rapid technological advances characteristic of this field.
In its efforts to maintain tissue engineering and tissue banking at the highest level of quality and safety, the CTE has acquired ISO 9001:2000 accreditation for retrieval, processing and supply of allograft tissue for human transplantation and may accept donated tissue according to section 3(1) of the Human Tissue Act, no 65 of 1983.
